Hattiesburg Public School District Foundation
The Foundation is proud to be working with HPSD on the first phase of the Central Office Park. Thanks to our State Representatives, Percy Watson and Toby Barker, State funding will cover most of the cost of this phase with the Foundation covering the rest. This will be an exciting enhancement to our community and will provide a beautiful addition to the neighborhood. Construction started in early-January 2017 and the work is progressing quickly. The sidewalk is going in and the park is definitely taking shape! Keep checking back to see more of the progress!
The Foundation sponsored an end-of-year celebration on May 5, 2016, at the N. R. Burger Transploreum. Nearly 150 people gathered to honor the 2016 retirees, administrator of the year, teachers of the year, new teachers of the year, classified staff of the year, and parents of the year. It was truly wonderful to celebrate the careers and the accomplishments of so many people who have demonstrated their commitment to Hattiesburg's future leaders!
Sophomore Jonathan Frelix and junior Tyson Barnes, two HHS strings program students, attended a prestigious chamber music workshop with the internationally acclaimed and Grammy award-winning Harlem String Quartet at Music Mountain in Connecticut on August 22-30. They competed against string players from across the country. They were accompanied by Mr. Jorge Gonzalez, HPSD strings teacher. Music Mountain is the oldest summer chamber music festival in the country, featuring chamber music of the highest caliber since 1930. Frelix and Barnes, along with Mr. Gonzalez, were also able to take a side trip to New York City!
